A Hatch PTO companion resource. For official device policies, always check District 97.
For Nefret, Nell, and parent volunteers

Everything in one place
for a helpful tech chat.

A ready-to-adapt outline for a parent conversation, with practical talking points, a short agenda, D97 questions worth checking, and materials families can take home. This is a draft, not an official district presentation.

Our goal is simple.

Parents leave knowing how to get help, what the tools can and cannot do, and one change they feel comfortable making. No tech jargon marathon. No pressure to use every feature.

A starting point, not a rigid program

Suggested 45-minute meeting flow

Adjust this to match Nefret's plan, available D97 guidance, and the PTO meeting format.

0–5 min
Welcome and the real-life question. What do parents want to understand about the iPad their child brings home?
5–15 min
Aristotle demo. Where to get access, what it reports, and which home controls are available in the current parent portal.
15–25 min
Screen Time basics. Show the current school-iPad interface if D97 confirms which settings parents may change.
25–35 min
A few home habits. Charging location, bedtime boundaries, family conversations, and keeping schoolwork accessible.
35–45 min
Questions and next steps. Where to find D97 help, the Hatch guides, and a printable family plan.

Plain-language explanations

What might be most helpful to say?

"Aristotle and Screen Time aren't the same tool. Before we change anything, let's look at what each one is meant to do."

What Aristotle shows

D97 reports certain web activity, not every app. The October infographic is a good visual for explaining why a report may seem incomplete.

What families can change

In the parent portal, after-school website and internet controls may be available. School-hour filtering stays with D97.

What Screen Time adds

Discuss the Screen Sense community walkthrough, but verify that the particular settings work and are permitted on the current school iPads.

Why family habits still matter

A simple check-in and a reasonable device routine often matter more than making every possible menu change.

Before sharing instructions

Six quick checks for D97 IT

These aren't criticisms of the district. They're things worth confirming so that families don't go home with instructions that don't match the iPads they actually have.

The checkmarks here are for workshop preparation only. They are not saved or sent anywhere.

What to share

Ready-to-use parent materials

Before publishing widely

What I'd ask Nefret to review

Is the level right for Hatch parents?

Should we simplify anything further, or add screenshots of the specific iPad interface?

Does the workshop match her experience?

What questions does she hear most often in the library or from families?

Can D97 confirm the device steps?

Publish screenshots or step-by-step instructions for managed devices only after that review.

Editorial note

The source dates matter. The D97 Parent Portal Guide is from September 16, 2026; the activity infographic is from October 16, 2026. This site should be checked whenever the district changes its portal or iPad management policies.
